The themes and curriculum we use in the KG department is very colorful and encourages children to learn. They listen to stories that engage their ability to think freely and build their own opinions to share with the class. Students are also encouraged to build their fine motors by coloring, drawing, journaling and have a set art lesson to inspire creativity.
In Pre-KG classes, our students are prepped for kindergarten by touching on core subjects such as; English, Math, Science & Social Studies. It is our priority to enhance their social and emotional skills in order for them to grow and evolve as students. Most of the topics are taught through play using exciting and engaging activities. Children learn basic skills as well as advance their fine and gross motor skills. Students will explore the world with fun and interesting monthly themes that center around main core topics that the students can relate to.
In KG 1 classes, we begin by focusing on conversation skills and fine motors. Students learn an array of vocabulary words and phrases to use in their daily lives. They will listen and eventually read short stories, allowing them to later voice their thoughts and opinions. Children are also encouraged to think outside the box, we set activities and challenges to stimulate their critical thinking and problem solving abilities. By the end of the year, our students will be tracing and reading simple sentences, as well as building their vocabulary and confidence moving forward.
In KG 2 classes the English, math, and science curriculum is designed to ensure every topic enables children to learn the skills and concepts they need for academic success. In English it includes major units segregated into important intellectual topics that are further divided into stories. Each story covers a comprehension skill, phonics, convention, high frequency words, vocabulary words and writing, throughout the year. Students will be able to blend words, decode sentences and write independent sentences by the end of the year. In math and science students are introduced to various essential topics to ensure solid foundation in each subject. Each subject will have workbooks that will be completed in class followed by weekly homeworks. Students throughout the year will be challenged and encouraged to brainstorm their ideas in small and large groups and implement them in the form of arts, drama, role play, and class work.
